Our Commitment

Feedback Forward is built and operated by Opportunity Education, a nonprofit. We exist to improve outcomes for teachers and students. We collect only the information needed to provide and improve Feedback Forward, and we protect it using industry-standard security practices.

What We Collect

We collect the basics needed to make Feedback Forward work: teacher account information, student rosters (names, grade levels, and school email addresses provided by the teacher), and the assessments and responses created in the app.

Students cannot create their own accounts. Teachers create student accounts by adding students to their roster or by syncing rosters through Google Classroom or Clever, following the permissions set by their school. Students can never access Feedback Forward without a teacher’s knowledge or permission.

We do not collect health records, biometric data, or precise location. 

FERPA and COPPA

Feedback Forward is designed to comply with FERPA, COPPA, and applicable state student data privacy laws.

When a school uses Feedback Forward, the school retains full ownership and control of its student data. We act as a school official with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA, which means student data is used solely for educational purposes and only as directed by the school.

For students under 13, we comply with COPPA and rely on schools to provide consent on behalf of parents where permitted by law.

Our full Privacy Policy and Terms of Service spell out the details in a format your administrator or IT department will recognize.

We do not collect health records, biometric data, or precise location. 

How We Use AI Responsibly

AI powers the insights that help teachers act on assessment data, and it comes with a responsibility we take seriously. Before any student data is sent to an AI model, we remove all direct and indirect identifiers, including names, email addresses, school, and grade level. Our AI providers are not permitted to retain student data or use it to train their models. Ever.

None of Our Data is for Sale

We will never sell or rent student data, build advertising profiles, or use student data for targeted advertising. There are no ads on Feedback Forward, and we prohibit third parties from tracking students on our platform. As a nonprofit, we have no bottom line to chase, and that will never change.

Security

Student information is encrypted in transit and protected by access controls and monitoring. In the unlikely event of a data breach, we notify affected schools promptly and in accordance with federal and state laws.
